DGSA
Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor Course and Exam
A DGSA, Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor, monitors a company's compliance with the rules governing the transport of dangerous goods. A DGSA also prepares an annual report on the company's compliance programs and reports on any accident that occurs during the loading, carriage or unloading of dangerous goods that affects the health or safety of any person or causes damage to the environment or property.
DGAC has arranged for the British DGSA exam to be administered by the Scottish Qualification Authority.
Candidates who pass the exam will be given a Vocational Training Certificate and be certified as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor. This course and successful completion of the exam can also be used to re-certify DGSAs who need to renew their expiring certifications, such as those students trained by DGAC in 2004.
While there are no formal prerequisites for this course, it is important that each student have a thorough understanding of the UN regulatory structure and its provisions for classification, packaging and hazard communication. Students who have successfully completed at least one of DGAC's hazardous materials training courses will have the best chance of succeeding at this difficult certification.
This course will be offered again in 2010.
Registration fee: $2,445.00 ($2,245.00 DGAC members)

Preparing Dangerous Goods for Transportation on European Roads - 2 Days
The ADR now aligns with the structure of the IMDG Code and the ICAO Technical Instructions. However, ADR does have variations, which mean that simple compliance with the “UN” system does not ensure compliance in Europe.
This course will consider the problems encountered by US exporters to Europe, including the interface between modes of transport. The majority of ADR countries are members of the European Union and the course will look at the impact of the EU on ADR and some of the difficulties this presents including enforcement.
The course describes the structure of ADR and highlights the differences between it and the other modal regulations. The method of instruction will assume the participant has a thorough knowledge of the UN regulatory structure and its provisions for classification, packaging and hazard communication and will teach the ADR provisions by showing the differences. Participants lacking the prerequisite knowledge will not successfully complete the course.

Preparing Class 1 Explosives for Transportation by Motor Vehicle
Class 1 is unique in that explosives classification is done by DOT and explosives generally may not be self-classified. There are a number of requirements for Class 1 in the US Hazardous Materials Regulations and international regulations that differ from other classes of dangerous goods including classification, shipping papers, marking, labeling, and placarding. In addition, other considerations come into play with explosives: increased financial responsibility, security, highway routing, and carrier permits.
